Driving San Lucas Cove-Los Barriles

After 7 days in San Lucas Cove, it was time to head south and see what was going on down at the East Cape. The destination was Los Barriles, an area famous for its marlin fishing near the southernmost tip of Baja, about 60 miles away from a less famous place named Cabo San Lucas. Leaving at 8 or 9a, we sped past beautiful Concepcion Bay, Loreto, Ciudad Constitucion (not necessarily beautiful), past an alarming number of cows and goats (on the road) and into LaPaz.

We followed the signs to Cabo thru LaPaz, which left us in a momentarily misdirected state until we eventually popped out heading south on the right road. Another hour later and we came over the hill into a friendly looking Los Barriles and its bright blue Sea. We easily find Martin Verdugo’s RV park and wobble over to the office to pay for a tent site ($12) and talk about the fishing (slow). This would be our furthest point away from home, and it was kind of sad that there was no more new country from here on out, but it was also a relief to know that we no longer had to retrace our steps in the opposite direction. With 2091 total miles on the odometer, it wasn’t tough to convince my butt to get outta the truck.
