Driving SanLucas Cove-SanQuintin-LasVegas-Boise

Even though the yellowtail bite started picking up slightly in the last two days with an 0-3 performance on snapped 60lb to wrap up the trip as a great success, we knew sooner or later that we'd better set the course due North and get back to reality..

On 5/24 we left San Lucas Cove and drove to San Quintin for the night. Rick and Wendy had tipped us on staying at Don Posada’s in San Quintin instead of stopping at El Rosario, and the extra hour closer to the border made a big difference the next day.

We woke up at 6a on Friday morning and ended up making the long haul from San Quintin all the way to Las Vegas. It seemed like most of our travel time was spent waiting in line at the border (done by 1:00p) , but then we waited even longer in SoCal traffic until finally getting to Vegas at 7p. Traffic or not, it's over 500 miles either way you cut it.

With Shanna occupied on the Oregon Coast with relatives, I stayed in Las Vegas and took a day to ‘unwind’ in the carpeted comfort of Steve apartment. Hard to explain how good carpet feels on the dogs after nothing but sandy flip flops for a month.
On Sunday I drove the remaining 10 hours to arrive home by 7p, just 30min before Shanna and the kids returned from the coast. There certainly wasn't any snow this time, and on the way through Twin Falls I made sure to take a picture of the potato fields of Idaho for the SLC gang (Snake River in the background).

The odometer reads 4103 miles and my butt believes every one of them. But by now I think you can guess that, family and work obligations aside, I would have gone inside for a drink of water and a change of underwear and then got right back in the truck and did it all over again. The trip really was that good, better than I ever imagined......
