The Inshore Fishes
You just never know what's on the end of the line, and every day we’d catch a different species. What an amazing diversity to be found in the Sea of Cortez! Without further ado, here are some of the various inshore/bottomfish/otherwise fishes of the trip.
Creole.
I forgot....spotted bay bass?
Spotted Grunt
Bait! (mackerel)
Bigmouth B@stard
Triggerfish
Pacific Yellowtail Snapper
Ladyfish
Mexican Hogfish
Cabrilla
Squid
Sculpin / Scorpionfish
Whitefish?
When the yellowtail bite dropped off for the day, you could always count on moving shallower and picking up a few random fish by trolling or casting into the rocks. We usually didn't keep it if it was a new species, but then we'd get back to camp and show somebody a picture and they'd say (more often than not) that it was good eating and we should have kept it. So the next time around the fishy was not so lucky..... Grilled Chinese Five Spice Cabrilla, Grilled Ginger Mango Chutney Snapper, Fried Rice with Shitake Mushrooms and Sweet Bread.
